Even though we're only in the middle of March, it's never to early to start planning for the two major summer blindness conventions. For those of you who don't know, every summer the two largest blindness organizations in the US (the NFB and ACB) meet in a city. These conventions are great oppurtunities to make new friends, check out the latest in blindness-related products and technology, learn about legislation and programs in progress, and get inspired. This year the NFB will be meeting in Dallas TX and the ACB will be somewhere in Florida. (sorry, don't kno together. I'll be in Dallas with the NFB and I'm sure there're plenty of people on here going to the ACB convention. What about you?w the city off the top of my head) Is anyone planning on going to either convention? It'd be really cool to get some zoners
I would love to go the nfb one, I'll see about it
I'll be in dallas!!!
Cool, see you there!
I live only 3 hours away from Dallas so I quess count me in.
I'm just going to the exhibit hall in Dallas. see all the cool new toys
I'm definitely going to the nfb convention in Texas this summer. The acb one is in Jacksonville.
wanted to go to nfb but in a program. so look at all the goodies in the hall for me. lol.
I'm going to FL/acb, anyone else?
It would appear you and I are the only ACB convention attendees, Jess.
I'll be going to the ACB convention. That's actually in my area, so that worked out perfectly.
I'm really interested in the exhibits myself, so I guess that makes several of us <grin>.
The exhibbit hall is loads of fun. I find it helpful to tag along with either a fully sighted person (my mom's gonna be hanging around) or a partial.
I aggree with that one, and also seeing as how I've never been to one before. I'm hoping to go with my bf, but seeing as how I can't get much info out of anybody as to the address it's going to be held, and what the start times are, that really doesn't help much.
I've been hearing through the grape vine that they want people with guidedogs to come and demonstrate them, so therefore they want me to be there, but if I can't get some info from someone by the end of the week, I guess they're out of luck.
Go to the site: acb.org and look at the convention info. Considering I'm meeting up with another totally blind person and this is my first convention experience, am I in for complete exhibit hall and hotel chaos? As of last night, I saw a brief hotel layout description, list of vendors and exhibit hall times. I'm flying out *really* early Sun. morning, but if anyone wants links or to chat about this, look up my contact stuff in the profile. Good luck with the (fun?) chaos!
Complete chaos? Maybe. Relatively controled chaos, though. It's fun!
